Dear Millstone Township resident,
It is our hope that all of our families are staying safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic. The challenges that this global health crisis has created are difficult to navigate and prepare for. At this time, we want to provide an update regarding our summer camp and recreational programs.
After months of following the evolving situation with COVID-19 and waiting for NJ State level guidelines on the opening of indoor youth camp programs, Millstone Township has reached the difficult decision to cancel our 2020 summer recreational camp. Although we have continued to plan, prepare and hope for a positive outcome, the health and well-being of our campers, staff and community must come first. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions and lack of guidelines, our trips had to be cancelled and school facilities remain closed. Proceeding with an indoor camp of our size would have meant significant time and costs to sterilize playgrounds, bathrooms and school facilities on a regular basis to meet CDC guidelines on preventing the spread of the disease.
Currently, we are exploring a variety of other limited outdoor programming that could be implemented later in the summer. Assuming that restrictions continue to be relaxed and clear guidelines are issued by the State and County Health authorities, we will be reaching out to you over the next several weeks about what we can offer. These programs will include smaller numbers of participants and be run outdoors at our park facilities.
Our summer tennis program is scheduled to begin in late June at Rocky Brook Park. Class sizes will be reduced and social distancing protocols will be in place. Our other sport programs are waiting on State guidance on the protocols that need to be adhered to but anticipate outdoor practices to begin by July. Thank you and stay healthy.
